Future Movie Review: Inception
Inception. Minority Report 2? Doctor Who meets Doctor Parnassus? Inception is about crimes. Crimes..in dreams. I’m not sure either, but there are many reasons why this film could work.
The 7th film by director Christopher Nolan, Inception should be in safe hands. With average rating on critic website Rotten Tomatoes of 80%, Nolan is the man who can do no wrong, coming off blockbuster and critical smash The Dark Knight.
When it comes to the cast, lead Dicaprio is practically recieving another chance. Playing a psychologically driven and completely confused man in a suit, Dicaprio will hopefully have a better script and plot to work with, as opposed to Scorcese’s 2010 letdown Shutter Island.
Playing female lead is Juno’s Ellen Page. Unfortunately i was the only one who didn’t seem to like the academy award nominated Juno, however Page’s work in Drew Barrymore film Whip It was both enjoyable and respectable.
Rounding off the cast are Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Berenger and Dark Knight veterans Cillian Murphy & Michael Caine.
If anything is to let this film down, it will be it’s intent & plot. Working with very little canon when it comes to dreams and judging by the trailer, Nolan will work extremely specifically on personifying the dark cityscape as a nightmare in the real world. This will potentially trail down an existentialist path, which could potentially make (See: Minority Report) the film or break the film.
As much as this film can wow the audiences with amazing cgi and psycological conundrums, there is no denying that at the end of the day, films like these place a lot of their success on a ‘how can we wrap this all up’ feeling. I am guessing that this film will not present it’s true colours up until the last half hour. However i see a lot of potential and am definitely looking forward to seeing this one on the big screen. for now, all we can do is sit back and enjoy the amazing trailers which tell us very little about the plot.
