#20- The Bride

Portrayed By Uma Thurman
Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003), Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004)

In a mind filled with Men with guns and plans, it wasn’t until the end of the nineties that we saw the world of Tarantino populate with independant women. With the likes of Jackie Brown (Pam Grier) and Basterd’s Shosanna (Melani Laurent), it was Uma Thurmans potrayal as the protagonist in the two part Bloodfest Kill Bill that created a new meaning to ‘Independant Woman’. No longer were women just standing up for their rights, they were getting out samurai swords and cutting off limbs. The Bride is quite possibly the most badass character this list, if maybe you ignore #16. With her body count steadily reaching the triple digits, the bride has one mission and one mission only. Kill Bill (Robert Carradine). Of course she can’t just go straight to Bill. She must make her way up the list of the Deadly Vipers. The Bride never gives up, despite being shot in the head, comatose for quite a while, and…er…well…being..buried. But the great thing which makes this character #20 is the mystery surrounding her. We begin the film knowing nothing about her, except that she’s fucking pissed. Even her name is a mystery until the final few moments. Of course her name ends up being completely lame, which is why most of us know her as the ‘The Bride’. An humourously ironic name, becoming more of an undertaker in the films. A character Uma Thurman will forever be connected with, The Bride deservedly brings the list into the final 20.

And yes, the bride will be back. Tarintino has officially announced that Kill Bill: Vol. 3 will happenm, ETA 2014. Whether it be a good thing or a bad thing, it won’t be a hindrance to the brides position in this list. Who knows? it might even raise her up
